Tooth Extractions
A tooth extraction may be recommended when a tooth is severely damaged, extensively decayed, infected or cannot be predictably restored with a filling or crown. Dr. Sze will assess the tooth, review the available options and explain what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Sedation options may also be discussed when appropriate.
Why an Extraction May Be Recommended
- A tooth is extensively decayed, fractured or structurally compromised.
- Infection or discomfort is associated with a tooth that cannot be predictably restored.
- A problematic tooth is affecting nearby tissues or planned dental treatment.
- An examination shows removal may be more appropriate than restoration.

Assessment Comes Before Removal
A painful or damaged tooth does not always require extraction. Dr. Sze will examine the area and may recommend diagnostic imaging to understand the roots, surrounding bone and nearby structures.
When reasonable alternatives exist, they can be reviewed before a decision is made. If removal is recommended, the team will explain preparation, the procedure, aftercare and signs that require follow-up.
After healing, you may also wish to discuss whether the space should be maintained or replaced with an implant, bridge or denture, depending on its location and your needs.
Recommendations are based on an individual examination and, when appropriate, diagnostic imaging. Contact the office if symptoms are urgent or changing.

Sedation options may be discussed for appropriate patients and procedures. A separate review of your health, medications and transportation arrangements may be required.
